About the Opportunity Our client, one of Australia's largest integrated energy companies, requires a Senior Regulatory Advisor to provide expert guidance on wholesale energy market regulation and compliance. This role offers the opportunity to shape regulatory strategy, influence policy outcomes, and ensure compliance across generation, trading, and wholesale market operations. The Role As Senior Regulatory Advisor - Wholesale Energy Markets, you will provide strategic regulatory advice across wholesale electricity markets, generation operations, and energy trading activities. You'll lead regulatory engagement, prepare submissions, and ensure compliance with National Electricity Rules whilst supporting commercial objectives and risk management. Key Responsibilities Provide expert regulatory advice on National Electricity Rules, National Electricity Law, and wholesale energy market frameworks Lead regulatory strategy development for wholesale market participation, generation operations, and trading activities Manage relationships with AEMO, AER, AEMC, and state regulators on wholesale market compliance, rule changes, and regulatory matters Prepare high-quality regulatory submissions, consultation responses, and policy advocacy materials on market design and rule changes Monitor and interpret regulatory developments affecting wholesale electricity markets including NEM reforms, rule changes, and market design initiatives Lead compliance oversight of trading activities, bidding obligations, dispatch compliance, and market conduct requirements Conduct regulatory risk assessments across generation, trading, and wholesale market operations Support regulatory audits, compliance reviews, and incident investigations related to wholesale market activities Provide strategic advice on commercial implications of regulatory changes, rule amendments, and policy reforms Develop compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures for wholesale market participation and generation operations Lead regulatory due diligence for generation investments, acquisitions, and commercial transactions Collaborate with trading, commercial, legal, and operations teams to integrate regulatory requirements into business processes Represent the organisation in industry forums, working groups, and regulatory consultations on wholesale market matters Lead industry engagement through active participation in Energy Users Association of Australia, Australian Energy Council, and other industry bodies Build and maintain strategic relationships with industry peers, regulatory bodies, policy makers, and government stakeholders Contribute to industry position papers, working group outputs, and collaborative advocacy initiatives on market design and regulatory reform Present at industry conferences, seminars, and stakeholder forums on regulatory developments and policy matters Coordinate cross-industry collaboration on shared regulatory issues, market reforms, and policy advocacy objectives Monitor and influence regulatory policy development through proactive engagement with government, regulators, and policy advisors Establish thought leadership on wholesale market regulation through publications, presentations, and industry contributions Design and deliver regulatory training programmes for traders, schedulers, and operational teams Support regulatory breach investigations, remediation planning, and stakeholder engagement with regulators Advise on generator registration, licensing requirements, and operational compliance obligations Your Background and Experience We are seeking candidates with proven wholesale energy regulatory expertise: Minimum 8 years of regulatory or compliance experience within Australian wholesale energy markets Deep understanding of National Electricity Rules, National Electricity Law, and NEM operational frameworks Strong knowledge of generator dispatch obligations, bidding compliance, and market conduct requirements Experience managing relationships with AEMO, AER, AEMC, and regulatory bodies on wholesale market matters Proven track record preparing regulatory submissions, consultation responses, and policy advocacy materials Understanding of generation compliance, licensing, and operational regulatory requirements Bachelor's degree in Law, Engineering, Economics, or related field;
