Your role at St John of God Bendigo As Nurse Practitioner – Neonatal you will have flexibility and capacity to modify your role depending on the clinical needs of the department at any given time. You will specialise in the care of newborn infants, particularly those who are premature, critically ill, or have complex medical conditions on our Maternity Ward. These roles may include: Medical coverage for sick/preterm neonates in the special care nursery and maternity wards, as well as attendance to high-risk births in the birth suite and operating theatre. Clinical team leader during basic/advanced resuscitation and emergency management of the sick and/or preterm infant. Provision of leadership, education and clinical support to nursing peers Liaising with Paediatricians and PIPER if higher level neonatal care required The Nurse Practitioner – Neonatal is responsible for clinical leadership and support and delivery of patient centred care within the Maternity Service. This will be done within their scope of practice to achieve optimal patient outcomes within allocated resources whilst supporting and promoting the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care (SJGHC). The NP-Neonatal will work autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role. Assessment and management of clients will include direct referral of patients, prescribing medications and ordering diagnostic investigations within their defined scope of practice. The NP-Neonatal has direct responsibility for improving and maintaining standards, developing solutions and delivering outcomes consistent with service and organisational imperatives and targets. As a key leader in the interdisciplinary team, the NP-Neonatal will ensure that the Maternity Ward meets the requirement for delivery of a patient centred service against key performance indicators and in accordance with the Mission and Values of SJGHC. The Position Demonstrate excellence in advanced clinical nursing practice, including comprehensive holistic health history, physical examination and social/cultural assessment. Independent ordering and interpretation of pharmacological, non-pharmacological and therapeutic interventions as deemed appropriate and within current scope of practice. Independent performance of Clinical Procedures such as: Intravenous cannula insertion Venipuncture Umbilical venous catheter insertion Pleural tap Supervised performance of Clinical procedures such as Chest drains insertion Endotracheal intubation Demonstrate expertise in clinical judgement by applying principles of pathophysiology, aetiology, pathogenesis, and clinical manifestations appropriate to neonatal patients. Initiate, implement and evaluate care of clients within the scope of practice, clinical practice guidelines and Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council National Competency Standards for the nurse practitioner. Practice within a clinical framework that is evidence based, relevant and current. Create, deliver, and facilitate formal and informal education to nursing, midwifery and medical specialties involved in the care of the neonate. Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of specific pharmaceuticals and diagnostic tests related to neonatal patients. Demonstrate proficiency in documentation of clinical case management. Foster a clinical team culture of interdisciplinary collaboration leading to improved patient outcomes. Maintain advanced clinical skills relevant to area of practice. Evaluate the quality of practice in area of specialty. Identify unsafe care practices and implements corrective action in collaboration. Understand and facilitates a team focused culture, which reflects service excellence including seeking and valuing caregivers’ contribution and engaging in clear and respectful communication. Deliver patient -centred care and operates within a nursing model of holistic practice Maintain a focus on optimal patient outcomes and current best practice. You will have demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge, skills, and the ability to extend practice through the application of evidence-based approaches. You will hold strong clinical leadership, effective teamwork, mentoring capabilities, and sound problem-solving skills, in addition to high-level communication, interpersonal, liaison, and negotiation skills. You will have commitment to ongoing professional development for both your self and caregivers. Knowledge and understanding of current trends in healthcare practice, research, and education, to which you will contribute at both local and national levels, will be required. You will have active engagement in clinical and/or educational research, as well as quality improvement initiatives. To succeed you will hold registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse and NMBA approved program of study to masters level. Minimum 5 years recent neonatal & obstetric nursing experience is essential for the role.
