The Opportunity Hoops Capital is seeking a General Manager of Basketball Operations to lead both the Kings and Flames programs. The General Manager will drive the long-term success, culture, and strategic direction for both teams, ensuring on-court competitiveness and off-court respect. This role reports to Mark Thompson (CEO) and Luc Longley (Head of Basketball, Co-Owner and Basketball Advisor) and requires deep basketball experience and the authority to guide coaches, players, and high-profile stakeholders. The General Manager will provide vision, discipline, and leadership across roster construction, scouting, player pathways, and staff development, while working with Head Coaches to align rosters with coaching styles and priorities. Key Skills & Characteristics Strong, confident and collaborative – able to manage bold personalities and work in partnership with Head Coaches Deep basketball intellect – strong understanding of basketball from professional playing or senior front office experience Strategic and disciplined – clear vision for roster construction, development pathways, and sustainable success Relationship builder and diplomat – credible with players, coaches, agents, and league officials Vast Network – strong local and international basketball networks Innovative – forward-looking approach to analytics and scouting High EQ – calm under pressure, balancing empathy with influence Core Responsibilities Leadership and Culture Shape and maintain the culture and identity of the Kings and Flames Provide strong, visible leadership across both programs, ensuring alignment and accountability Relationship Management Act as the primary liaison between the Kings and Flames and their players, agents, and all basketball operations matters Act as the liaison for the NBL League Office and supervise communication with the WNBL League Office for basketball and business matters Front Office Oversight Work with legal counsel on player contracts, staff employment agreements, and related licenses Oversee day-to-day basketball operations, supervising the Assistant GM and staff Roster Construction Lead all player recruitment and acquisition initiatives with Head Coaches Implement long-term roster construction strategy for both teams Oversee year-to-year roster development Scouting and Analytics Analyse local and international personnel with Head Coaches Identify talent and assign values and recruitment strategies Develop scouting processes and a database of players Prepare detailed player evaluations for free agency, acquisitions, and salary cap management Initiate NSW high-school talent identification for Hoops Academy Salary Cap and CBA Manage salary caps and total player spend including salaries, benefits, and fees Navigate NBL and WNBL collective bargaining agreements and salary rules Finance and Budget Draft and regulate annual budgets for roster spend, staffing, travel, services, equipment, technology, and medical Maintain financial review processes with quarterly updates and cost-saving initiatives Major budget approvals subject to joint sign-off from CEO and Head of Basketball Medical and Sports Science Oversee medical and sports science teams, player care, injury prevention, and rehabilitation Develop medical team for the Flames and coordinate with league offices and media Player and Staff Development Develop pathways for Kings and Flames players to college opportunities Monitor and track development plans Standardise best practices across both teams and conduct end-of-season reviews Plan staff professional development and succession Collaborate with Hoops Academy Director on pathways and performance outcomes Key Relationships Hoops Capital Ownership Group and CEO Head Coaches, players and staff of the Kings and Flames NBL and WNBL league offices Player agents and sports professionals Media and public relations stakeholders Why Join Hoops Capital?
