ABOUT THE POSITION An exciting opportunity exists for a qualified Marine Technician or Small Engine Mechanic with strong hands-on experience in outboards, small inboard engines, and portable gensets. The successful candidate will be responsible for servicing, diagnostics, repairs, and installations of small marine engine systems while ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency. The role involves both workshop and on-site servicing, preventative maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, and performance testing. Occasional travel may be required to marinas or remote sites. Responsibilities: Service, repair, and troubleshoot small marine engines, including outboard motors, small inboard engines, and portable gensets. Conduct diagnostic testing, sea trials, and post-maintenance evaluations to ensure optimal engine performance. Perform scheduled maintenance, overhauls, and component replacements on small engines and auxiliary marine equipment. Diagnose and repair mechanical, fuel, and DC electrical faults using manufacturer manuals and diagnostic tools. Assemble, install, and commission new or rebuilt outboards, portable generators, and related systems. Service and tune fuel systems, carburettors, and DC electrical systems for small engines. Maintain compliance with safety regulations and manufacturer standards, keeping accurate service records. Provide clear communication and excellent customer service, including explanations of repair outcomes. Travel occasionally to perform on-site servicing at marinas or remote locations. Essential Criteria: Trade qualification in Small Engine Mechanics, Marine Technology, or equivalent, with a focus on outboard motors and portable gensets. Proven hands-on experience in the servicing, repair, and overhaul of outboard motors, small inboard engines, and portable marine generators. Strong diagnostic skills in mechanical, fuel, and DC electrical systems. Ability to interpret technical manuals, service bulletins, and electrical schematics. Familiarity with marine engine brands such as Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki, Honda, Cummins Onan, and Volvo Penta outboards. Excellent problem-solving skills under time-sensitive conditions. Strong communication and customer service skills. Commitment to safety, quality, and professional standards. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
