Kuzu Izakaya is seeking a talented and passionate Chef to join its team full-time. The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for Japanese cuisine, with experience in both classic and innovative contemporary dishes. You will play a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of quality, presentation, and consistency in every dish that leaves the kitchen. Reporting to the Executive Chef/ Manager, you will support management of kitchen operations, oversee quality ensuring dishes are prepared according to specification, train and mentor kitchen staff, ensure hygiene and safety protocols are adhered to at all times, and deliver high standard of food and service to our guests. In this role your main responsibilities include: Preparing and cooking a wide range of Japanese dishes, including sashimi, tempura and seasonal seafood and wagyu items featured on menus. Assisting with menu development, ensuring dishes reflect both seasonal produce and Izakaya dining traditions. Overseeing kitchen operations while upholding the highest hygiene, WHS, and food safety standards. Training and supporting kitchen staff to deliver smooth and efficient service. Uphold the restaurant's commitment to high-quality, authentic Japanese cuisine. Maintain cleaning schedules for equipment, storage, and work areas Ensure meals are produced on time and presented well – ensuring sufficient quantities are available. Monitoring quality and presentation across all stages of food preparation. Managing stock, ordering supplies, and assisting with menu costing. Qualifications and Experience Hospitality qualification: AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma, or Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2). At least one year full-time experience as a Chef, preferably within Japanese cuisine. Proven expertise in Japanese cooking techniques, ingredients, and flavor profiles. Skills and Attributes A strong track record in delivering innovative, high-quality Japanese dishes. Sound knowledge of kitchen management, menu planning, and costing. Ability to manage shifts effectively and support the team in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. High standards of personal grooming and presentation.
