On this occasion, we have a great role with Hume City Council to bring to the market. As Senior Sustainable Environment Officer - Climate Adaptation and Sustainable Procurement, you will join the Council team in a part-time capacity until April 2026 initially with extension highly likely. The role seeks 3 days per week, totalling 15 hours in total between 10am and 3.45pm ideally but hours are likely to be somewhat flexible. In this key role, you will play a key role in Council's response to Climate Adaptation, including coordination of the development, implementation, monitoring, reporting and review of Council's environmental policies to better align with climate change response. Overall, this role will see you thrive if you are focused and passionate on both macro and micro climate change threats and the positive routes Local Government can take to minimise these threats. Your role will ultimately include many duties including to: Coordinate development, implementation, monitoring, reporting and review of strategies and policies Develop and embed processes to improve Council’s climate adaptation response and sustainable procurement. Provide professional advice on climate adaptation and sustainable procurement. Support, embed and celebrate circular economy principles and sustainable procurement practices across the organisation, particularly for products with high impacts and viable low carbon alternatives for example ashphalt and concrete. Bearing in mind the significance of this role, we are seeking candidates who are true experts in the Climate Change and Sustainability fields who share the Council's passion for positive change. Please critically review your own skills and experience against the following success criteria before applying: Tertiary qualifications in environmental sciences, environmental policy or a related field or lesser formal qualifications with extensive relevant experience. Substantial experience in the development, coordination and review of environmental strategies and policies with experience in climate change risk management preferred High level understanding and application of the principals and practices of sound environmental management particularly in relation to integrated water management, environmentally sustainable design and development, environmentally preferable procurement and climate change adaptation. Demonstrated ability to identify and set future directions and to develop strategies and policies to achieve sound environmental management practices and positive environmental outcomes. Demonstrated high level experience in environmental management including embedding and integrating environmental change across a large organisation, sustainable procurement and/or climate change adaptation. A strong background in formulating creative and innovative approaches in problem solving and generating outcomes to meet strategic directions, and where guidance and advice are not always available. Demonstrated ability to gain cooperation and assistance from colleagues, contractors and external stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives and implement projects.
