Talent & Engagement Lead Melbourne | Hybrid | Full-Time MachShip is one of Australia’s leading freight technology platforms, setting the standard for logistics technology, and scaling rapidly across Australia and New Zealand. With a team of 70 across Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand, we’re looking for a Talent & Engagement Lead to strengthen how we hire, onboard, support performance, and communicate internally. This is a practical, business embedded people role. It’s focused on outcomes, securing the right people for the right roles, helping managers establish clear performance expectations, and ensuring the team is kept informed as the business evolves. You’ll work closely with managers to streamline our hiring and onboarding approach, support performance structure, and coordinate internal communications and company events. The role is hands on, autonomous, and purpose built to support the way MachShip operates; commercially, clearly, and without unnecessary layers. What This Role Is (and Is Not) We are not building a corporate HR department. We are not looking for slide decks, theory, or HR as theatre. This is a commercially focused, execution first role built around: Hiring and onboarding Performance support Internal communication People processes that scale You will not be managing the employee lifecycle end to end or dealing with complex employee relations cases. Instead, you will be setting up smart foundations, getting our hiring and people infrastructure tight so managers can lead better, and the business can scale faster. What You Will Be Doing End to end hiring : Post ads, screen candidates, run interviews, coordinate reference checks, and help managers make great hiring calls Own onboarding : Set new team members up for success, from contracts and systems access to welcome packs and first week clarity Support simple performance tools : Help managers use effective and consistent approaches to setting goals, giving feedback, and making performance expectations clear Run internal communication : Coordinate updates from the leadership team, prepare agendas for all company wide meetings, and ensure people know what is going on Be a people operations point of contact : Help with basic HR questions, maintain documentation, policies, contracts and compliance. Coordinate company wide events : From birthday shout outs and team lunches to end of year events Support hiring and team culture across our AU, NZ and PH teams : With help from our local leaders and leadership team What You Bring 2 to 4 years in HR, recruitment, operations or a people focused role, ideally in a startup, SME or founder led business Experience with hiring and onboarding in fast moving environments Comfort with HR basics, you know how to write a contract, manage a process, and keep things compliant without getting bogged down in red tape Strong communication skills, you write clearly, speak directly, and can handle sensitive conversations with maturity and calm A mindset that is commercial, not corporate, you are here to make the business better, not to add process for the sake of it Maybe you are a recruiter looking to expand into HR.
