Our client is a large Federal Government Department that has responsibility for the safety and security of Australia and its citizens. They are a stable, well-funded organisation with a huge variety of complex projects. The Opportunity There are two roles available, one at APS6 and one at EL1, offered as either a section 26 permanent transfer or a 12-month non-ongoing contract with a view to permanency. You will conduct compliance assurance activities across a variety of interesting and complex areas, providing practical recommendations and insights that help improve the organisation. You will be working with a supportive and engaged Director who values collaboration, professional growth and a positive team environment. The Role As an APS6 or EL1, you will: Lead or contribute to audit and assurance activities to strengthen financial controls, risk management and operational processes Analyse complex information to assess compliance and provide practical recommendations Prepare clear reports, executive briefs and submissions to inform decision-making Provide independent advice on financial risks, internal controls and organisational performance Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver outcomes and enhance governance Manage risk assessments, maintain risk registers, and identify emerging risks Mentor and support team members to deliver high-quality results The Ideal Person Having a strong background in accounting and finance, or a related field, you have experience in assurance or audit. You bring experience from the APS, Big 4, or a mid-tier firm and have a collaborative, consultative approach, engaging confidently with stakeholders at all levels. You can think strategically, provide practical recommendations, and negotiate outcomes that drive meaningful improvements. A relevant accounting degree and CA/CPA qualification (or working towards) is highly desirable. Applicants must be Australian citizens with an existing AGSVA Security Clearance.
