Assistant Accountant (Contract) – North Melbourne Company OverviewOur client is a leading national distributor with a strong presence across Australia, supplying premium products to a wide network of retailers and partners. With a reputation for service excellence and a supportive workplace culture, they are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join the finance team on a contract basis in their North Melbourne office. The RoleReporting to the Finance Manager, this role will support the wider finance team across transactional accounting, reconciliations, and month-end tasks. The position is ideal for a hands-on Assistant Accountant who enjoys variety, working to deadlines, and being part of a collaborative environment. Key ResponsibilitiesSupport end-to-end accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice entry and supplier/customer queries.Prepare and post journals, accruals, and prepayments.Assist with bank and balance sheet reconciliations.Support payroll processing and related accounting journals.Assist with month-end close activities and reporting.Liaise with internal stakeholders and provide support on finance queries.Contribute to process improvement initiatives and ad hoc finance projects. Skills & Experience2–4 years’ experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar role.Exposure to AP/AR, reconciliations, and month-end accounting.Strong attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines.Intermediate Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting systems (SAP, Pronto, or similar desirable).Excellent communication skills and a proactive team player attitude.
