THE ROLE The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) / Clinical Services Manager (CSM) is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and management of an inpatient mental health unit. This role ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred care, while fostering a positive team culture and supporting staff development. The NUM/CSM will oversee clinical operations, workforce planning, and service improvement initiatives in alignment with mental health standards and organisational goals. Key Responsibilities: Provide clinical and operational leadership to nursing and multidisciplinary staff. Manage daily operations including patient flow, staffing, and resource allocation. Develop and maintain effective staff rosters to ensure safe and efficient service delivery. Promote a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed model of care. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and clinical standards. Lead quality improvement initiatives and contribute to service planning and evaluation. Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and performance development for nursing staff. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning. Eligibility Criteria (Essential): Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA . Postgraduate qualifications in Mental Health Nursing . Minimum 5 years’ experience in an inpatient mental health setting . Demonstrated experience in rostering and workforce coordination . Proven leadership and team management skills in a healthcare environment. Strong understanding of mental health legislation, clinical governance, and risk management. Desirable Criteria: Ability to provide clinical supervision to nursing staff. Experience in quality improvement and change management.
