About The Role: The Psychological Health and Wellbeing Specialist will lead and oversee MTC’s strategies and programs for ensuring a psychologically safe and healthy workplace. This position plays a leadership role in ensuring that the Psychological Safety Plan for Secure Journeys meets the contractual obligations and requirements in the Immigration Detention Centre Network. The role acts as a subject matter expert in psychological health and safety and provides expert guidance to MTC on the identification, assessment, and response to psychosocial hazard management across all MTC work environments. Working closely with the IDN National Manager of Programs and Welfare, this role will support the strategic delivery of mental health awareness and mental health first aid across all operational sites. Key Responsibilities: Influence the strategic direction of MTC’s psychological health and wellbeing policies Lead systematic identification and assessment of psychosocial hazards across corrections, detention, transport/escort, and FIFO operations Develop frameworks to ensure psychosocial demands and inherent risks of roles are understood and effectively managed Integrate psychosocial considerations into recruitment, onboarding, supervision, and performance management processes Design and deliver training and training programs that equips leaders and staff to identify psychosocial hazards, recognise early warning indicators, and respond appropriately Develop and manage psychosocial hazard reporting and tracking processes Use data and analysis to identify themes, risks, and opportunities for improvement Key Requirements: Tertiary qualification in Work Health & Safety, Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, Organisational Development, Risk Management, or a related discipline. Demonstrated knowledge of psychosocial hazards, risks, and controls under WHS legislation, the Managing Psychosocial Hazards at Work Code of Practice 2022, and ISO 45003. Proven ability to design, implement, and embed psychosocial risk management frameworks and programs into business-as-usual systems. Experience working in complex, high-risk environments such as corrections, detention, emergency services, health, or human services. Strong data and analytical capability, with the ability to translate information into actionable workplace controls and strategies. Excellent communication, consultation, and influence skills across senior leaders, regulators, and frontline staff. High emotional intelligence, cultural awareness, and demonstrated ability to engage with diverse workforces, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
