Mitsui Iron Ore Development (MIOD) is seeking a skilled and strategic Technical & Development Manager – Joint Ventures to represent Mitsui’s interests across major iron ore operations in the Pilbara. This is a rare opportunity to influence the direction of long-standing, globally significant mining ventures from the shareholder seat. Job Description The Role Based in Perth and reporting to the Chief Technical Officer, you will act as a trusted shareholder representative across the Robe River and Rhodes Ridge Joint Ventures . Your focus will be on governance, analysis, and strategic engagement. You won’t deliver projects yourself — instead, you will ensure that the right projects and directions are pursued. Through careful review of joint venture plans, proposals, and performance, you will provide Mitsui with clear recommendations and actively participate in shaping the strategic direction of these ventures. Key responsibilities include: Represent Mitsui in joint venture governance forums, meetings, and site visits. Review and assess operating plans, budgets, and development proposals. Provide technical and commercial insights that influence joint venture strategy and shareholder decision-making. Contribute to setting the long-term strategic direction of Mitsui’s joint ventures. Identify opportunities to improve performance, innovation, and sustainability outcomes. Support Mitsui’s decarbonisation and innovation initiatives across the mining value chain. Build strong working relationships with partners, technical experts, and consultants. Some travel (domestic and international) will be required to engage with joint venture stakeholders and assess opportunities. Desired Skills and Experience About You You are a confident technical professional with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments. You enjoy influencing outcomes at a strategic level, using your deep technical knowledge and commercial judgement to represent shareholder interests effectively. Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Metallurgy, or related mining discipline. 15 years’ mining/metallurgical industry experience. Strong knowledge of mining, transport, and shipping of bulk commodities. Proven ability to analyse complex proposals and communicate recommendations clearly. Demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior stakeholders. Current Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident Desirable: Postgraduate qualification in project management. Knowledge of the iron and steelmaking process and industry. 5 years’ site-based technical or operational experience. Experience reviewing or overseeing mining projects >$500M. Why Join Mitsui?
