Primary Objective Based at our Newstead office t he role of the Policy Advisor is to provide support to the Manager Fatigue and Human Factors with regard to shaping and delivering legislative, strategic and policy priorities related to safety management, with a focus on fatigue and human factors, within the national heavy vehicle law. Please note this is a temporary role from October 2025 to February 2026 Your key responsibilities will include: Assist with developing and implementing policy advice and strategic planning in the area of Safety Management and Human Factors, including fatigue. Provide advice to support informed decision making on the evaluation of effectiveness of Safety Management systems (SMS) and Fatigue Risk Management Systems (FRMS). Develop and implement strategic heavy vehicle policy in alignment with the broader NHVR’s strategic plan. Undertake research on matters relevant to the role, analyse data, issues and trends, and prepare quality evidence-based policy proposals, briefings and correspondence that communicate findings, recommend policy positions and identify areas for reform. Proactively contribute to developing, implementing, evaluating, and continuously improving strategic and operational policy, procedures, guidelines and regulations relevant to the NHVR.
