Referee Manager Location: Southern Basketball Association Hours: Part Time or Full-Time (35 – 38 hours/week) Schedule: Flexible across Monday–Sunday, adjustable based on game schedules, school holidays, and operational needs, flexibility for candidates that have league commitments Must have weekly crossover hours with the competition management team (business hours) Recommended majority of regular hours to fall within game times: Mon–Fri: 4:15pm–10:30pm Sat: 8am–7pm Sun: 1pm–5pm Key Responsibilities: Promote a positive officiating culture, ensuring above-standard performance and a good game day experience for all participants Lead the recruitment, development, and retention of referees, referee coaches and supervisors Facilitate the delivery of theory sessions and on court assessments for C, B, and A Grade referees Oversee referee scheduling for junior, senior local competitions, and VJBL games, ensuring two referees are assigned per game with skill levels appropriate to the game's demands Schedule and manage Referee Supervisors, ensuring high-quality game day support that prioritises safety, referee development, and consistent performance standards Collaborate closely with the competitions team for smooth game-day operations Coordinate all Basketball Victoria communication regarding technical officials, identifying and nominating suitable referees for external opportunities such as state-level accreditation, events, and representative appointments Maintain referee records and Basketball Victoria compliance using Refbook Develop and enforce policies related to child safety, compliance, and day-to-day operations of the technical official’s department. Prepare and maintain referee reimbursement reports Assist with written tribunal reports and ensure a senior SBA official is present to support referees during tribunal hearings Provide formal responses to address conflict, complaints and behavioural concerns Respond to rule queries by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of SBA by-laws, FIBA rules, and Basketball Victoria rule changes and directives through ongoing training and self-education. Essential Requirements: Current Working with Children Check Basketball Victoria Technical Officials License Grade 2 Referee Coach Accreditation (or higher) Basketball Victoria APDO Accreditation or willingness to obtain Current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID001 & HLTAID003) or willingness to obtain Proficiency in RefBook and PlayHQ is desirable. Previous experience as a referee and/or referee coach in Basketball Victoria’s leagues.
