Primary objective Provide high-level, accurate and timely advice, manage and coordinate the development of and strategic support to the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist. Context statement The Office of the Chief Psychiatrist is focused on Safety and Quality, Advocacy and Communication and special projects as identified by the Chief Psychiatrist. With the review of the Act, assist in the development of safety and quality guidelines for the Chief Psychiatrist. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Provide high level secretariat services to the Approved Procedure and Quality Assurance Committee through monitoring, reviewing and liaising with key stakeholders relating to Approved Procedures and other documents. 2. Provide administrative and secretariat support to the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist on standards for safety and quality in clinical mental health services, on workforce development and policy and administrative processes as appropriate. 3. Support reviews and assist in sensitive investigations into matters of a highly confidential nature. 4. Liaise with Mental Health Services across the Northern Territory to foster a collaborative Territory Wide service. 5. Prepare reports, discussion papers, executive briefings and ministerial correspondence. Assist in the development of submissions and evaluations. 6. Maintain effective collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders across government and key non-government stakeholders at local, Territory and national levels. 7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces. 8. Foster a positive workplace culture through role modelling behaviour, support learning and development of staff, where appropriate. Selection criteria Essential 1. Knowledge and understanding of safety and quality management principles and systems in the health care setting. 2. Proven high-level organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure, attend to detail, exercise initiative, complete tasks in a timely manner, and work in a team environment with minimal supervision. 3. Demonstrated high-level interpersonal oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare high level correspondence and with ability to interact effectively with people of various professional levels and from diverse cultures. 4. Ability to critically review and report on policy matters and governance. 5. Demonstrated ability to monitor projects against plans, manage priorities and respond to changes in requirements in a timely manner. 6. Experience in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of strategic and innovative policies and programs within health. Desirable 1. Knowledge of key strategic reform directions in mental health.
