Location: Sydney CBD Job Type: Permanent Role Salary: $180-220 base plus super bonus Start Date: As soon as possible About The Role Our client is currently expanding footprint with major new builds including one of Australia’s most advanced data centres currently under construction we are seeking a Lead Data Centre Design Engineer to drive the electrical design and technical planning across current and future developments. This is a senior role where your expertise will help shape how data centres are designed, engineered, and improve to meet both customer demands and emerging technology trends. Key Responsibilities Lead and coordinate the work of consultants and technical partners to ensure high-quality engineering and design outcomes.Drive innovation in electrical systems design by staying across industry trends and applying forward-thinking solutions.Review and challenge consultant outputs to improve for performance, cost, and customer-specific requirements.Engage in design workshops, providing input into design standards, and driving continuous improvement across all phases of development.Oversee concept design reviews, ensuring alignment with technical specifications, operational needs, and project milestones.Support bid and proposal teams by providing technical input for tenders and customer proposals.Model electrical load distribution, evaluate capacity, and assess impacts of new deployments.Provide risk insights around redundancy, resiliency, and operational reliability.Participate in construction inspections and integrated systems testing (IST) to validate build quality.Develop technical documentation including feasibility reports, scopes, and risk assessments.Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, construction, and operational teams to deliver projects that meet scope, schedule, and compliance requirements. What You’ll Bring Minimum 8 years’ experience in electrical engineering design or consulting, ideally in important environments such as data centres.Proven ability to manage technical design across full project life cycles from concept to construction to operation.Strong technical knowledge of electrical infrastructure, including:UPS systemsDiesel generatorsElectrical switchgear and PDUsTransfer switches (ATS/STS)Low-voltage (LV) and high-voltage (HV) systemsProficient in fault level analysis, protection schemes, and redundancy models (block/distributed).Deep understanding of applicable engineering codes and standards related to critical infrastructure.Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and working closely with clients and consultants.Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.
