Weipa is a vibrant coastal mining town on the Cape York Peninsula, with a local population of 3000 with a further 1300 residing in the neighbouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of Napranum and Mapoon. As the only regional community organisation supporting all three communities, we play a vital role in delivering essential services and enrichment programs. Our services offered include Community Centre, Women’s Shelter, Healing Service, Domestic and Family Violence Counselling, NILS, RADIO (Remote Alcohol and Drugs Interventions & Outcomes) , Community Connect & Development, Opportunity shop and Café. Our dedicated team includes around 11 staff plus volunteers. Together, we work towards our vision: “Every member of our community has the opportunity to thrive.” About you You will bring strong leadership skills demonstrated in the Community Service sector experience, and the cultural awareness to operate effectively in diverse settings, ideally within Indigenous communities or regional areas with high Indigenous populations. A demonstrated willingness to learn and grow in this space is equally valued. You will also have tertiary qualifications and proven business capability to manage budgets, compliance, operations, and innovation. Responsibilities As CEO, you will: Inspire a passionate team to deliver services including domestic violence support, youth programs, community development, and drug and alcohol support Nurture a positive and psychologically safe workplace built on compassion, collaboration, and respect Lead strategy, operations, and advocacy in partnership with the Board Drive funding opportunities, financial sustainability, and program growth Build strong partnerships with local communities, Indigenous leaders, government, and service providers What you’ll bring (selection criteria): Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, Community Development, Management, or related field or comparable work experience Proven leadership and management experience with at least 5 years in a community or non-profit setting Demonstrated ability to apply best practice to support individuals experiencing or at risk of experiencing domestic and family violence, drug and alcohol use, trauma, and isolation. Outstanding stakeholder engagement and ability to operate in cross-cultural settings and build strong relationships with key stakeholders including community, partner organisations, local government, businesses, and Indigenous leaders. Demonstrated ability to recognise and support personal and professional development, drive continuous improvement, and ensure a physically and psychologically safe and inclusive work environment. Proven experience in securing, executing, and delivering government funded projects including performance monitoring, confidentiality, data capture, budgeting, compliance and reporting. High levels of cross- cultural sensitivity including knowledge and experience of working with rural, remote, and Indigenous communities, or a demonstrated willingness to learn. Experience in new business development including identifying appropriate opportunities in the community, sources of funding, grant writing and advocacy. High levels of digital literacy and a commitment to using new and emerging technologies to improve operations and service delivery.
