This is a newly created, pivotal leadership role within Nine's Publishing division, where you will shape and drive the strategic editorial direction of Nine.com.au. Reporting to the Managing Director, Publishing, you will work closely with commercial, audience, and strategy teams to align the site's editorial vision with Nine's broader goals. You will lead a large newsroom of journalists, producers, and editors, inspiring them to produce high-quality, ambitious journalism that engages a diverse national audience.Day to day you will:Set and finesse the editorial direction for Nine.com.au, aligning with audience trends, the Nine Publishing ecosystem, and broader Nine strategic and commercial goalsWork with Product and Tech teams to ensure the website and customer interface support strategic aimsContinuously drive and strengthen the overall editorial proposition and quality of Nine.com.auGenerate original, ambitious ideas and foster the development of ideas from othersDrive the news agenda for a diverse Australian readership and forward plan to deliver ambitious and complex journalismLead the newsroom by implementing strategies to support, engage, and develop staff, fostering a collaborative team environmentDevelop and adhere to the budget, including managing staff FTE and freelance budgetsWork collaboratively and productively with national counterpartsQualificationsWhat you'll bring:Previous experience in a senior editorial role with a major site or mastheadProven ability to effectively lead a large teamAbility to create a robust and considered editorial strategy for a site with a national audienceOutstanding journalistic backgroundCommercial awareness of target markets, audience growth, and international trendsAbility to set direction for, inspire and engage a newsroomAbility to develop and maintain cooperative and positive relationships with executive-level peersStrong professional leadership, budgeting, and staff management skillsTo apply: please submit your resume and cover letter by Friday 10 October 2025.Additional InformationHow we workAt Nine, our flexible work options vary by role and team.
