About the role: A Federal Government department is seeking an experienced Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer to support and enhance their Azure Cloud environment. This role requires strong skills in Azure DevOps, Microsoft cloud services, and infrastructure management within secure government environments. Location: Canberra, ACT (Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week minimum) Contract: 12 months up to 2 x 12-month extensions (potential to Nov 2026) Hours: 40 hours per week Clearance: Must hold or be able to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) - Australian citizenship required Working arrangements: Hybrid, with mandatory weekly office attendance You'll be part of the team responsible for delivering and supporting the department's Azure Cloud environment , enabling modern, secure, and scalable platforms for government services. Requirements Build and maintain Azure DevOps pipelines , deploying and configuring resources in departmental Azure subscriptions. Provide L3 support for Azure-hosted business applications, servers, and firewalls. Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of the Azure hosting platform. Manage virtual infrastructure and cloud data factories in Azure. Develop and maintain Terraform code libraries/modules using Agile processes. Support and guide critical Microsoft services including M365, Entra ID, Conditional Access, and Intune . Collaborate with project managers, developers, and cyber teams to ensure secure, compliant, and cost-effective delivery. Essential criteria 1. Minimum 5 years experience with managing complex production deployments in Azure Cloud. 2. Strong skills in administration of Microsoft cloud services such as M365, Azure, and Dynamics 365. 3. Experience in working with developers and business owners. 4. Experience working for the Federal Government with considerations to compliance with the IT security environment (ACSC Essential 8, etc.). 5. Experience in producing technical documentation for application deployment and infrastructure services. 6. Experience ensuring compliance and governance when managing infrastructure change requests in Federal Government. 7. Demonstrated experience with Infrastructure as Code tools, particularly Terraform, for cloud resource management. Desirable criteria 1. Experience working with Azure Connect Hub. 2. Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent professional experience. 3. Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer Expert) highly regarded.
