Location: Melbourne CBD close to public transport Work Type: Full-time, Permanent Salary: $90-100 superannuation Hybrid: 1-day from home, which can be any day Parking: Onsite parking included About the Opportunity: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join a supportive finance team in Melbourne. This role offers the chance to take ownership of end-to-end payroll operations across multiple states and employee groups, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in every process. Key Responsibilities: Process and oversee multi-state payroll cycles (fortnightly and monthly) with complete accuracy and timeliness. Maintain employee records, process new starters, terminations, and salary adjustments. Prepare and reconcile monthly payroll journals, PAYG, and payroll tax submissions. Interpret Awards and EBAs, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation across different states. Manage reporting requirements, including quarterly audits, ad-hoc reporting, and payroll analysis. Act as the first point of contact for payroll queries from staff and external bodies (ATO, Centrelink, Child Support, salary packaging providers, etc.). Identify opportunities for process improvements and maintain up-to-date procedures. About You: You are a proactive and highly organised payroll professional with: 4 years’ experience in end-to-end payroll, ideally within a medium-to-large, multi-site organisation. Must have experience interpreting awards Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, superannuation, PAYG, and state-based entitlements. Proficiency with payroll systems (experience with Preceda highly regarded) and advanced Excel skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality. Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
