Position Information Stewart House School caters for approximately 1700 students from public schools across NSW and ACT annually. Each fortnight, up to 85 students participate in health and educational programs and out-of-school activities to promote their learning and wellbeing, with 30-40% of the students being from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background. The Stewart House School program features a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum and includes experiential learning, as students are taken on excursions across Sydney every second day. The school works in close partnership with Stewart House Organisation, and its public health providers, as well as principals from students' home schools. Children, whilst in residence at Stewart House, attend the school for up to10 days of their 12-day residential stay. As a unique provision, the school is categorised as a School for Specific Purposes (SSP). Selection Criteria Approval to teach primary or secondary education with knowledge and/or experience in teaching students with emotional difficulties. Demonstrated high-level teaching skills, with the ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds. Capacity to develop programs, differentiate, teach and evaluate a social and emotional learning (SEL) curriculum. Capacity to implement the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal students. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with a proven capacity to work collaboratively with staff and students. Conditions This position attracts a handicapped children's allowance. The position has nominated status at the completion of the five year tenure. The successful applicants must hold or be willing to obtain a light rigid licence and participate in a two days residential program induction. An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
