Main Duties Responsibilities : A Panel Beater is responsible for repairing and restoring damaged vehicle bodywork. This involves a range of tasks, including removing damaged panels, straightening body panels, filling depressions with plastic filler, and applying new or repaired panels. Key Responsibilities : • Damage Assessment: Evaluating the extent of damage to vehicle bodywork and determining the necessary repairs • Panel Removal and Replacement: Removing damaged panels and components by unbolting or cutting them away and replacing them with new or repaired panels • Panel Straightening and Repair: Straightening damaged panels using various techniques, including hammering, mechanical equipment, and hydraulic tools • Filling and Smoothing: Filling depressions with plastic filler, sanding, and filing repaired surfaces to achieve a smooth and flawless finish • Welding and Joining: Using oxyacetylene and electric welding equipment to join or replace sections of damaged panels • Chassis Alignment: Straightening and aligning the vehicle's chassis to ensure proper alignment • Refitting Hardware: Refitting body hardware such as door locks, trims, and other accessories after repairs are complete • Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of work performed, hours worked, and costs incurred. Skills and Qualifications : • Physical Stamina and Dexterity: The ability to stand, bend, and lift heavy objects for extended periods, with excellent hand-eye coordination • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of vehicle body construction, welding techniques, and repair methods • Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to operate various tools and equipment, including welding machines, hydraulic equipment, and power tools • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to assess damage, determine repair methods, and troubleshoot issues that may arise during the repair process. Qualifications : • Trade Certificate in the Automotive Industry Experience : • 5 years previous experience in a similar role/industry Salary Range : $76,515 to $85,000
