Introduction: The Chief Officer is a senior leadership position on a well boat, responsible for overseeing the deck department and ensuring the safety, efficiency, and operational compliance of the vessel. This role demands a highly skilled professional who can manage complex operations, supervise crew, and ensure the welfare of live fish. As a Chief Officer on a well boat, one must have knowledge of live fish transport, various treatments for aquaculture salmon, and fish welfare practices. Key Responsibilities: Operational Management - The Chief Officer is responsible for managing the vessel's day‐to‐day operations in accordance with the company’s values, policies, and procedures. This includes overseeing cargo operations, ensuring proper handling of live fish, and maintaining optimal water quality in the well tanks. Safety and Compliance - The Chief Officer plays a critical role in maintaining the safety of the vessel and crew. This includes organizing and conducting regular safety drills, emergency muster training, and ensuring all safety systems are fully operational and meet certification requirements. The Chief Officer will also conduct risk assessments and monitor safety performance to prevent accidents and ensure safe operations. Leadership and Crew Supervision - As a key member of the Shipboard Management Team, the Chief Officer supervises the deck crew, ensuring efficient, safe, and timely execution of tasks. This includes providing training, assigning duties, and ensuring crew members are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge for their roles. Communication and Reporting - The Chief Officer is responsible for ensuring proper communication between the deck department and the Captain, reporting on operational issues, safety concerns, and crew performance. Regular updates and reports must be provided to the Captain, and when required, to shore‐based management. Qualification Requirements: Essential Qualifications : - o Deck Officer qualification according to company competence and training matrix o Norwegian Medical Certificate o Global Operator Certificate (GOC) / GMDSS certification o STCW‐78 Basic Officer Safety Course o STCW A/VI/4‐2 Medical Care o STCW A‐VI/5 Ship Security Officer o STCW A‐VI/6‐2 Designated Security Duties o ECDIS certification o At least 1 year of well boat experience on deck or on bridge Additional Recommended Qualifications : - o Fish Welfare Course o Well boat experience 3 years o Smolt handling experience o Fish Harvesting experience o Grader and counter experience Location : Port Huon, Tasmania
