Your Opportunity Mission Australia’s Psychosocial Support Services on the North Coast provide essential support to people living with severe and persistent mental illness. Working within a recovery framework, we empower clients to maintain their housing, manage finances and daily living, engage in work or training, and build social and physical wellbeing. This is an on-site position in Lismore, where you will harness your own lived experience of mental health recovery to support and inspire hope in others. As a Peer Advocate, you will positively influence client outcomes through coaching, mentoring, group facilitation, and recovery-focused approaches. You will also play a key role in preparing clients for the NDIS and supporting their housing pathways. Your Key Responsibilities Use your lived experience to inspire hope, share recovery strategies, and support clients to achieve their goals. Facilitate and co-facilitate small peer-led support groups and recovery-focused activities. Collaborate with Recovery Coordinators to develop and review recovery and safety plans. Provide advocacy, coaching, and mentoring to build client resilience, motivation, and personal capacity. Support clients in preparing for NDIS access, housing stability, and community participation. Maintain accurate client records, documentation, and reporting in line with Mission Australia protocols. Build strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders to strengthen recovery outcomes. Requirements for Success Lived experience of mental health challenges with the ability to draw on personal recovery to support others. Minimum Certificate IV in Peer Work (Mental Health) or willingness to obtain. Experience working collaboratively in mental health, peer work, or related community services. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage professional boundaries. Confidence in using technology, databases, and administrative systems. Ability to manage triggers and maintain personal wellbeing while supporting people in distress. Knowledge of local community programs, services, and networks to enhance client connections. Full driver licence with no restrictions Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
