Impact of the organisation The Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) is the national peak body for individual aged care advocacy. It comprises nine state and territory members that provide free, confidential and independent information and support to older people seeking or receiving government-funded aged care, as well as their families and other supporters. OPAN engages in systemic advocacy to influence government policy on aged care. OPAN’s vision is a society where older people are heard, informed, and respected and where they enjoy and exercise their human rights. The impact you will have in this role As the Content and Media Officer, you will create engaging, accessible content and support media engagement that builds OPAN’s brand and strengthens connections with older people, their families, supporters and the wider community. You will develop content across digital, print and media channels, coordinate newsletters and campaigns and support OPAN’s role as a trusted national voice on aged care rights. As the Content and Media Officer, you will: Help ensure older people know their rights and how to access support. Build OPAN’s profile as a trusted voice on aged care and human rights issues. Create content that informs, empowers and connects diverse audiences. Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing communications team with real impact. Key Responsibilities Create, review and coordinate accessible, engaging content across all OPAN communication channels. Lead the development and delivery of OPAN newsletters. Guide and contribute to the social media content calendar to ensure alignment with strategy. Review reports and organisational content for accuracy, clarity, and consistency. Manage regular content meetings to maintain coordination and alignment. Coordinate media requests and proactively identify opportunities to position OPAN as a trusted voice on rights and aged care. Draft and manage media materials such as releases, statements, responses, and opinion pieces. Develop briefing notes and talking points for the CEO and OPAN representatives. Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, media outlets, and sector publications. Track, monitor, and report on media coverage and related activity. Mentor and collaborate with colleagues to deliver OPAN’s engagement strategy. Skills and Experience You are a skilled communicator with strong writing, editing and media experience and you thrive in a collaborative, purpose-driven team. You bring: Tertiary qualifications in marketing, communications, or a related field. Demonstrated success in a communications, content, media or similar role. Proven expertise in writing, editing, and developing content for diverse audiences and channels. Experience in media liaison, including preparing media materials, talking points, and supporting stakeholder engagement. Strong project management skills with excellent organisation, prioritisation and time management. Advanced stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills. Superior attention to detail. Self-driven and able to demonstrate initiative. Flexibility and adaptability to manage changing priorities effectively. Confidence using technology, with strong MS Office skills.
