About the role Mackerel Islands is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Bookkeeper, based in Cottesloe WA, to ensure the appropriateness, adequacy, and integrity of all bookkeeping processes for our diverse business operations across the Mackerel Islands. The successful candidate will have proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting, particularly within hospitality businesses. Cottesloe based office Key Objectives: Conduct bank reconciliation and day-to-day financial bookkeeping accurately and timely. Produce monthly organisational financial reports, including comments and investigations by the 10th of each month. Reconcile all General Ledger (GL) codes, including intercompany journals. Provide financial information to the Financial Controller/CEO. Maintain the integrity of accounting, billing, stock control operating systems. Duties & Responsibilities: Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable functions using XERO, SwiftPOS, RMS, and Lightyear, ensuring proper allocation of income and expenses. Reconcile daily takings and investigate any discrepancies. Prepare monthly sales invoices and report on EOM target profit margins. Manage inventory and stock control systems, ensuring correct cost centre allocation, pricing, and GST compliance. Perform weekly reconciliation of Xero accounts, including bank and credit card transactions. Collaborate with the company accountant/secretary to prepare EOM cash flow reports and assist with BAS statements. Stay updated on PAYG, FBT, and GST requirements. Maintain an asset register and manage administrative systems as directed. Qualifications: Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting, particularly within hospitality businesses. Minimum 3- years of bookkeeping or accounting experience is required. Hospitality industry experience is strongly preferred. Proficiency in accounting software (XERO preferred) and POS systems. Advanced level proficiency in XERO accounting software is required. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent communication and analytical abilities. Knowledge of Australian tax regulations. Australian permanent residency or citizenship is required for this position.
