Join one of Australia’s largest pastoral businesses Paraway Pastoral Company is seeking an experienced Assistant Station Manager to join our team at Pooginook Station, near Coleambally and Griffith in the Riverina region of NSW. Pooginook was the first property purchased by Paraway in 2007 and is now recognised as one of Australia’s leading Merino studs. The operation produces 1,000 Merino rams annually across 19,656 hectares of native and irrigated grazing land, formed from the aggregation of the original Pooginook and Stud Park North holdings. The renowned Pooginook bloodline is known for its dual-purpose type, combining excellent wool quality with strong growth rates and high fertility, delivering genetics that support both productivity and profitability. About the role This role is integral to the day-to-day management of the property, supporting the Station Manager to ensure the continued success of the wider property performance allowing the time needed to maintain and improve the highly regarded stud. The position offers the chance to develop leadership skills in a progressive business while working with a dedicated team and world-class Merino genetics. What you’ll bring Hands-on experience in livestock management, ideally with highly productive, intensive and extensive merino sheep production systems. Strong safety leadership and people leadership management skills, with the ability to mentor, motivate, and build a positive team culture. Practical knowledge of grazing systems, animal health, pipe and trough water systems. Previous experience and or a willingness to take on responsibility for all areas of irrigation management of the 170ha lateral and 220ha boarder check irrigation asset to help produce high quality pasture and grazing crops. A proactive and organised approach, balancing day-to-day operational needs with long-term planning and financial decisions aligned to the approved budget. Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with staff, contractors, suppliers, key consultants A commitment to animal welfare, safety standards, and sustainable land management practices. Mechanical aptitude and sound skills in maintaining and managing station infrastructure, plant, equipment good level of fencing experience Enthusiasm to contribute to the success of a leading Merino stud and to develop your career in station management across intensive/extensive grazing systems, dryland and irrigated farming.
