The role is responsible for planting, cultivating and harvesting trees, shrubs, ornamental and flowering plants in plant nurseries. Prepare soil by digging, raking, screening, and enriching it with nutrients; fill cold frames and hot beds for optimal plant growth. Select, plant, and propagate seedlings, bulbs, cuttings, and grafts; transplant young plants and ensure proper growth conditions. Manually water plants and operate irrigation systems to maintain optimal moisture levels in fields and greenhouses. Apply fertilizers and protective sprays to enhance plant health and prevent pests and diseases. Operate tractors, sprayers, and other nursery equipment for cultivation, harvesting, and maintenance tasks. Observe plant growth, assess soil and plant conditions, and maintain records of treatments, watering schedules, and plant development. Dig, cut, and transplant trees, shrubs, flowers, and plants; package and prepare them for sale and distribution. Assist customers by providing expert guidance on plant selection, purchasing, and care, ensuring proper handling and maintenance. Maintain clean and organized work areas, ensuring proper care of nursery stock, landscaping, and greenhouse facilities. Requirements: Minimum AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the- job training, or AQF Certificate IV with 1 year full time work experience. At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above.
