APS6 Media Adviser – 6 Month Contract or S26 Transfer Opportunity Advance your media and communications career in a collaborative and supportive federal government agency. ASAP start! 6-month non-ongoing contract (S26 transfer considered) Inner South Canberra location with free onsite parking Flexible work arrangements – 2 days WFH per week Supportive leadership and a high-performing communications branch We’re seeking a talented and creative media professional to support media and communication activities that enhance the organisation’s reputation and manage reactive media enquiries. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders and the Minister’s office on high-profile programs and initiatives. This is a great opportunity to build on your experience in media and communications, whether you come from a journalism background or an APS communications team. Candidates at the APS5 level looking to step up are also encouraged to apply. Inner South location, free parking, flexibility to work from home 2 days per week. Key Responsibilities: Identify media opportunities and develop engagement strategies Coordinate responses to media enquiries Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on media relations Collaborate with external stakeholders on media activities and products Draft media releases, news stories, and talking points Monitor media and produce analysis reports Coordinate fact-checking and clearance of communications products Participate in an after-hours on-call roster as required Your experience may come from a background in journalism or media engagement, or you may come from an APS Communications team, but important is an understanding of media and the news landscape. Skills & Experience: Degree in communications or related field, and/or minimum 2 years’ experience in journalism or communications Strong written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences Excellent interpersonal skills and stakeholder engagement capability Collaborative mindset and team-oriented approach Australian Citizenship and ability to obtain a Baseline security clearance How to Apply: Applications are being reviewed as they come in, so don’t delay!
