Base pay range A$180,000.00/yr - A$210,000.00/yr Direct message the job poster from Operandi Consulting We’re looking for a Hands-on Software Development Manager / Engineering Manager / Staff Engineer to own day-to-day delivery for a multidisciplinary squad reporting to the CEO, you’ll turn high-level product ideas into shippable increments, coach the team on engineering excellence, and ensure our clean Architecture-based, AWS cloud-native stack stays world-class. With over 200,000 customers to date and growing this scale-up opportunity as a Software Development Manager/ Engineering Manager / Staff Engineer really is career defining. This role would suit an established Software Development Manager or a Software Engineer looking to step up from a team leader or Staff Engineer into a leadership role. What You’ll Do Architect & code-review – guide design of our clean Architecture .NET 9 microservices, Next.js front-end and Postgres data layer on AWS Lead & mentor – set coding standards, cut code, give actionable feedback, and develop engineers career path toward seniority Own sprint delivery – run Agile ceremonies, keep the board flowing in Jira and hit a production release every 14 days Lead and manage a dedicated team ( 3 Engineers, a Business Analyst and Quality Assurance) Maintain architectural boundaries – enforce Clean Architecture separation of concerns, keeping domain logic isolated from infrastructure and User Interface Raise the bar on quality – champion CI/CD, test automation and observability; make “green build” the default Plan capacity & roadmap – align team velocity with business priorities, flag risks early, and keep stakeholders in the loop Optimise cloud performance – own AWS best practices, IaC, and secure deployments whilst minimising cost and ensuring great execution Continuously improve process – refine metrics, agile ceremonies / retrospectives and documentation so we get better every sprint Core skills 5-7 yrs experience as a professional Hands-on software engineer, in addition to 2-3 yrs proven experience of leading Engineering / Software Development teams Proven record of shipping production releases every 2 weeks with the know how to get this right on every release Deep expertise in .NET 9, Next.js / React, PostgreSQL (or comparable Databases such as MySQL or SQL Server) on AWS (ECS/Fargate, RDS, IaC) Hands-on experience building systems with Clean Architecture and demonstrate how you went about doing this with your team Mastery of Jira, Agile/Scrum, and metrics-driven delivery Exceptional organisational skills & commitment to action Excellent written & verbal communications skills Desirable for this role Experience in Fintech / Insurtech / Superannuation / Financial Services or other regulated environments Exposure to gRPC, REST and event-driven architectures Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (via CDK) and GitHub Actions Experience using AI models to increase code output and quality and working with the team to make this happen to improve shipping production Candidates must be eligible to work in Australia for this role and be able to work in Sydney CBD for 2-3 days each week.
