Overview We’re growing our expert Temporary Works and Trenchless team to tackle some of the most complex underground challenges in Australia and New Zealand. From deep trunk sewers 20m below urban centres with limited footprint deep access shafts to surface enabling works and required pipe jacking supports, our projects are as rewarding as they are technically demanding. We’re looking for a Principal Structural Engineer with expertise in deep shaft design and trenchless installation methods to join our regional team in Sydney . You’ll work on high-impact infrastructure projects, with the flexibility of a hybrid model with up to three days a week from home when not on client site. Responsibilities Design leadership across pipe jacking, micro-tunnelling, HDD, and live flow GRP slip-lining projects Deep shaft design in constrained urban environments, including restricted footprint shafts over 20m deep Temporary works and enabling solutions for complex underground infrastructure Tender support and construction staging, helping shape winning bids and practical delivery strategies Project coordination across disciplines, ensuring safety, efficiency, and constructability Client and contractor collaboration, simplifying complex designs and improving construction methods Mentoring junior engineers, contributing to design reviews and technical workshops Driving innovation in trenchless and temporary works practices Recent Projects Melbourne Metro Northeast Link Gold Coast Seaway Project Sunbury Level Crossing Removal Herne Bay Trunk Sewer Upgrade (NZ) Orakei Main Sewer Rehabilitation (NZ) Bondi Ocean Outfall Sewer (BOOS) Rehabilitation D4C consortium pump stations and trenchless shaft/shoring works About You You’re a technically strong, curious, adaptable and collaborative engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and working closely with contractors and clients. You Bring Proven experience in trenchless installation (e.g., micro-tunnelling, sewer rehab) Expertise in deep shaft design (10m a must, ideally 20m) Familiarity with surface equipment and temporary works Experience in active sewer environments and awareness of HSE considerations advantageous Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) Bachelor’s in Civil/Structural Engineering Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills The Team WSP’s Geotechnical & Tunnels division unites more than 400 geotechnical, geological, and tunneling consultants nationwide, recognised for their expertise, collaborative spirit, and commitment to best practice.
