The Opportunity We’re seeking a trade-qualified Fitter & Turner to join our Mechanical Maintenance Team. You’ll support the reliability of fixed and rotating plant equipment—such as conveyors, fans, agitators, blowers, and hydraulic systems—through safe, efficient, and proactive maintenance. You’ll also use your machining and fabrication skills to repair or modify parts, and your knowledge of hydraulic systems to diagnose and resolve issues using schematic drawings and system understanding. Description Key Responsibilities Conduct planned, preventative, and breakdown maintenance Fault-find and repair hydraulic power units and control systems Read and interpret hydraulic schematics and technical drawings Fabricate, assemble, and repair components using lathes, mills, and welding equipment Modify plant and equipment to improve reliability and performance Record work in CMMS and contribute to continuous improvement Participate in toolbox talks, 5S, and TPM activities Support team knowledge-sharing and mentoring About You You’re a hands-on, safety-focused tradesperson with a strong mechanical background and a proactive mindset. Essential: Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade ( Fitter & Turner ) Experience with fixed and rotating plant in heavy industry or processing Strong skills in hydraulic fault finding and repair Confident interpreting hydraulic schematics and mechanical drawings Proficient in machining and fabrication (lathe, milling, welding) Basic diagnostic and problem-solving skills Comfortable working independently and in a team Skills And Experiences Desirable: Experience with CMMS (SAP, JDE, Oracle) Manual polypropylene welding experience LBG Bridge & Gantry Crane, Forklift, and EWP tickets Competent with MS Office tools (Word, Excel) Why Join Sun Metals?
