The Salvation Army’s The Well in St Kilda is looking for a volunteer Garden Team Lead to help transform our garden into an even greater space. Join us from 9:30 – 2:30 every Tuesday or Wednesday, and every Friday. About The Well The Well at St Kilda Chapel is a vibrant sanctuary offering a home away from home just off Chapel Street. Through The Salvation Army, our growing community enjoy a safe space to connect, nurture and restore their soul. Housed in a beautiful 160-year-old bluestone that was originally built in 1864, the chapel closed and re opened as The Well about seven years ago—since then, it has been transformed into a thriving hub for those experiencing hardship, loneliness, or isolation. Recently we received a new kitchen, community pantry, and outdoor prayer room, enhancing the warm and welcoming space. Our gorgeous garden is the heart of group gatherings, offering alfresco dining, a fireplace, BBQ and a pizza oven, and we’re excited to grow more greenery with your help. About the Role As our Volunteer Garden Team Lead, you will guide a small group of volunteers in caring for and developing the garden at The Well. You’ll play a key role in creating a beautiful, sustainable space where community members can relax, connect, and grow together. Your Key Tasks Will Include: Planning and coordinating seasonal planting and maintenance Leading and supporting a small team of garden volunteers Ensuring the garden is safe, tidy, and welcoming Working alongside The Well team to integrate the garden into our community activities What You’ll Gain: Hands-on experience leading a community garden project Opportunities to develop your leadership and organisational skills A chance to make a real difference in the local community The joy of seeing your work help others connect, grow, and thrive Real-world experience to add to your resume About You Have completed or are currently studying a Horticulture or other relevant TAFE/University qualification Possess knowledge of plant care, garden design, and sustainable gardening practices Enjoys working with people from all walks of life Are organised, reliable, and able to lead and motivate a small team Shares our commitment to community connection and inclusion Interested?
