The Role With continued growth, Western District Health Service is currently looking to appoint an Executive Director of People and Wellbeing to be based at its main site at Hamilton Base Hospital in Hamilton, Victoria. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution to a high-performing, values-driven workforce through strategic thinking and operational excellence. Reporting to the CEO, this newly created position will be pivotal in shaping a high-performing, inclusive culture across the organisation's multi-site operations, while driving innovation in workforce planning, organisational development, and employee wellbeing. It also offers the chance to lead integrated efforts across the sites to streamline operations and unlock new possibilities for transformative cultural change and progressive people programs. This position offers real influence in building leadership capability and shaping organisational culture. Key Responsibilities With oversight across all WDHS campuses and providing support through a local service agreement to Casterton Memorial Hospital, the Executive Director of People and Wellbeing will be responsible for ensuring best practice human resources practices and processesand ensuring the support of staff health and wellbeing. Key Focus Areas Will Include : Strategic People Leadership Human Resources & Industrial Relations Wellbeing, Safety & Occupational Health Organisational & Cultural Development Workforce Planning & Capability Development Leadership Team Development Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Workforce Systems & Compliance Skills & Experience You’re confident navigating complex ER / IR matters, and you understand the importance of compliance, leadership, and culture in driving organisational success. The ideal person will be a seasoned senior leader in Human Resources, Workforce or Organisational Development, experienced in working in highly regulated environments such as the Hospitals, Healthcare or Public sectors. You will be a strategic thinker who thrives on forming collaborative partnerships with executive teams and key organisational stakeholders, with a proven ability to align people and culture initiatives to organisational goals, fostering performance, inclusion, and staff engagement. Additionally, you will bring : A strong track record in leading change and embedding values-based leadership ideally in multisite environments Experience supporting employee wellbeing, mental health, and safety A passion for developing high-performing, innovative teams Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills Deep knowledge of key legislation, including OH&S Act 2004 (Vic), Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), and Gender Equality Act 2020 (Vic) Familiarity with the Victorian Public Sector (VPS) or similar regulatory environments. Postgraduate qualifications in HR, IR, Business, or Health Management and experience with Victorian Public Health Services or related policy reform will be highly regarded.
