About the position The Financial Accountant is responsible for assisting Finance Leadership positions in the preparation, coordination and delivery of statutory and regulatory financial reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards, legislation, and Council policies. The role has a focus on asset accounting and provides expert financial advice, supports audit processes, and contributes to the integrity and continuous improvement of Council’s financial systems and practices. Key Responsibilities Assist in preparing and coordinating Council’s annual financial statements, working papers and statutory returns. Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports, and provide timely, relevant information to internal and external stakeholders. Support year-end and interim audit processes on both general financial and asset-specific matters. Responsible for periodic liaison with key asset owners to review financial asset depreciation rates, remaining asset useful lives, annual disposals, completed projects and instances of impairment. Maintenance and management of Council’s financial fixed asset register. Review and improve financial policies, procedures and internal controls relating to both general and asset accounting functions. Demonstrated substantial experience in an Accounting environment. Demonstrated ability to interpret and implement Legislation, Guidelines and Policies. Demonstrated intermediate competence in the use of Microsoft Office Software, particularly excel (or equivalent).
