Your role at St John of God Bunbury Hospital We are currently seeking dedicated Patient Care Assistants to join our casual staffing pool. As Patient Care Assistant, you will be responsible for delivering a high standard of care for patients in the areas of patient care, patient transport, and support of the nursing care team as required. The Position: Carry out direct patient care and manual handling duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse Transfer patients using all forms of patient transport to all areas of the Hospital. Assist Nursing Caregivers with the care of patients whilst ensuring that privacy of patients is maintained. Understand role in an emergency and follow direction of the Coordinator. Maintain safe environment for patient contributing to patient comfort needs. Contribute to an efficient and timely patient admission, transfer and discharge process. Assist Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurses in care of deceased patients. Provide focused supervision of a particular patient(s) as directed by Registered/Enrolled Nurse to eliminate risk to particular patient(s) e.g. provide companion support. Maintain stock levels as required. Maintain oxygen and suction levels in designated areas as needed. Ensure that all food is handled and stored according to the Health (Food Hygiene) Regulations 1993. Liaise with nursing caregivers to ensure patients receive appropriate diet/meals. Assist with patient feeding as directed by Registered Nurse/Enrolled Nurse. Assist patients with completion of menu selection excluding patients receiving special diets. You will hold a Certificate III in Health Service Assistant (Client/Patient Services) or similar; or have significant work experience, such that meets the competencies and duties of the role; or currently studying in a health-related field at a tertiary level along with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills. To be successful in this role, you will be able to work independently, set and manage priorities effectively, and work well within a team. You will also have a sound understanding of manual handling practices, along with basic cleanliness, food handling, and hygiene standards.
