Job Description Joining an established and high performing team comprised of over 60 engineers and designers, the Principal Primary Engineer is a key contributor to project success and holder of Technical Authority for primary design. This role involves producing detailed “for construction” designs, with a strong consideration of constructability, operability and maintainability requirements. It also involves mentoring engineers within the organisation to support them developing Primary design documents for the Principal’s review and approval. The Principal Primary Engineer is responsible for the following: Provide leadership and technical oversight to engineers and designers within the company; Comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements and client obligations with regard to Primary engineering design and construction activities performed by the company. Leading, motivating and mentoring all engineering personnel within the organization; Design and produce drawings of electrical systems using Computer-Assisted Design (CAD), including assessment of emerging tools, for example 3D design, artificial intelligence aided design, etc; Produce Primary reports such as insulation co-ordination and short circuit force, as well as mentoring others and reviewing the reports produced by others. Evolve and improve standard Primary designs; Prepare and interpret primary equipment specifications and drawings, confirming technical compliance and fit-for-project status prior to procurement; Ensure completed works meet client specifications and relevant industry/national/international standards; Contribute and adhere to safety requirements, particularly Safety in Design; All senior staff have the responsibility to lead by example, showing a positive commitment to Work Health and Safety (WHS) and the Environment. Principal Engineers have a responsibility in their areas of control to: Carry out their roles, responsibilities and accountabilities as detailed in legislation and WHS policies and procedures; Identify, assess and control, in consultation with employees, the WHS and Environmental risks, identified as part of specific project planning, or, as appropriate, in the day-to-day activities undertaken; Ensure that work areas, work methods, materials and equipment comply with legislative requirements and industry standards, as far as is reasonably practicable; The Primary Principal Engineer is employed on the basis that they are able to identify, analyse and solve problems, have good oral and written communication skills, display leadership skills, enjoy technical design, are practical and creative, are able to work independently and accept responsibility for outcomes within their control.
