WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING As the Legal Officer you will support the Senior Legal Counsels and Legal Counsels to review and actively contribute to the consistent interpretation and application of legislation relating to the Coal Long Service Leave Scheme and addressing legal and regulatory issues that arise for Coal LSL. You will: Participate in providing legal advice to the organisation under the guidance of a Senior Legal Counsel, focusing on legal authority relating to employer compliance under the Coal LSL scheme and the implementation of regulatory and administrative processes by Coal LSL Demonstrate a sound understanding of the legislative regime and legal authority that governs the Coal LSL scheme Complete allocated tasks to a high standard including seeking and responding to appropriate guidance and proactively reporting on progress Assist with evidence review, undertake legal research and analysis and prepare clear concise memorandums and correspondence, under the guidance of a Senior Legal Counsel Actively contribute to the engagement with employers and employees concerning legal and regulatory issues Liaise with external legal providers by preparing and overseeing briefs, reviewing advice and supporting its practical interpretation and application Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support performance of regulatory functions These are permanent positions, based in Newcastle. Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and years of PQE, ranging from graduate level up to 3 years PQE ($92,000 including super to $110,000 including super) WHY WORK WITH US? Your background will demonstrate your: Ability to produce quality legal analysis and advice using strong analytical and problem-solving skills Capacity to analyse complex issues and implement strategic solutions that support organisational goals Attention to detail and methodical work processes Capability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders Proven ability to work on tasks independently, whilst still contributing to a team environment Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to produce high-quality written reports, policies, action plans, correspondence, and other documentation While prior legal experience is preferred, it’s not essential. Candidates must either have a law degree or equivalent and a current NSW practising certificate or be in the process of completing those qualifications. If you are completing study, your appointment will be conditional on you completing your degree in 2025 and being admitted to practice early in 2026.
