We’re seeking an energetic and visionary Chief Engineer to join our UNITE Data Engineering team . This is a rare opportunity to shape the data transformation of a once-in-a-generation program. Key Responsibilities: Define and implement engineering, DevOps, and quality strategies aligned with Westpac and Data Platforms. Lead technical roadmaps and contribute to long-term strategic planning in collaboration with enterprise architecture and senior leadership. Mentor and supervise engineering and solution design teams, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. Set objectives, conduct performance reviews, and provide coaching to support team growth and success. Ensure teams are equipped with the right tools, skills, and resources for high performance. Oversee end-to-end delivery of engineering projects, ensuring quality, timeliness, and risk management. Conduct technical reviews and provide final approvals on designs and specifications. Promote innovation and the adoption of emerging technologies. Act as the key technical liaison across engineering leadership, architecture, and delivery teams. What do I need? Strong engineering leadership in modern digital environments, applying agile and DevOps principles—ideally within finance. Deep understanding of data platforms and emerging technologies, with a focus on customer-centric design and meaningful user experiences. Expertise in data engineering tools and technologies like Teradata, Informatica, Hadoop, Synapse, Python, and PySpark. Experience in data transformation, innovation, and delivering user-friendly digital solutions. Ability to build cross-functional partnerships and align engineering with business goals. Proven communication and presentation skills, including delivering to GM-level audiences. Strategic mindset with the ability to pragmatically balance delivery pressures with architectural objectives. Ability to exercise governance and drive best practices across engineering teams. Passion for mentoring, stakeholder engagement, and continuous learning.
