The Gig If you’re a capable Project Engineer who loves the technical and commercial side of projects but is ready to swap the site boots for the bid room, this is your chance. We’re looking for an engineer with a solid grounding in civil or pipeline construction to step into a full-time estimating role within a high-performing pre-contracts team. Based in Brisbane CBD and reporting to the Commercial General Manager, you’ll use your site-based engineering experience to assess constructability, review scope, and prepare cost estimates for pipelines, HDD, trenchless works, earthworks, and other civil projects. You’ll work with suppliers and subcontractors on pricing, support bid submissions, and gain insight into the commercial strategies that win projects, a chance to step off site and into a high-performing estimating role. Commercial acumen underpins everything you do , as you work alongside senior estimators, engineers, and the wider delivery team to refine methodologies, identify cost efficiencies, and shape competitive tenders that give them a winning edge. Bringing your site-based know-how into the estimating process; You will be trusted with: Applying practical site experience to develop buildable, cost-efficient solutions Assessing constructability and interpreting technical scope for civil and pipeline projects Preparing accurate cost estimates for pipelines, pump stations, trenchless works, and earthworks Engaging suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing Identifying cost efficiencies and refining project methodologies Contributing to clear, compelling tender submissions Collaborating with project teams to ensure estimates align with delivery needs Building commercial expertise while helping secure winning bids Researching market trends and pricing to strengthen bid competitiveness Supporting handover from tender award to delivery phase for a smooth start What’s in your toolbox? Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or related discipline 3 years’ site-based or project engineering experience on pipeline or civil works Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and technical documentation Ability to interpret drawings, scopes, and specifications with accuracy Confident communicator with strong analytical and organisational skills Ambition to transition from site into a high-performing estimating role You’re the kind of person who thrives on solving challenges, values accuracy, and builds strong relationships.
