The Opportunity We’re looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our national engineering team and play a key role in driving geotechnical design and delivery excellence across major projects, including substations, transmission lines, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and Balance of Plant works. Reporting to the Manager Primary Design, you will be a senior technical leader responsible for overseeing geotechnical investigations, analysis, and design inputs from early works through to construction. Working closely with civil, structural, and electrical teams, you will ensure geotechnical solutions are practical, compliant, and constructible, supporting CPP’s reputation for technical excellence and safety. Key responsibilities include: Lead the geotechnical design process across all project phases, including feasibility, tender design, detailed design, and construction. Plan and interpret geotechnical investigations (boreholes, CPT, SPT, test pits, etc.) and produce detailed geotechnical models and reports. Deliver geotechnical assessments for foundations, slope stability, settlement, ground improvement, and detailed geohazard mitigation strategies. Provide peer reviews and technical sign-off for geotechnical deliverables. Skills And Experiences About You To be successful in this role, you will possess: Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering. Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia. Registration on the National Engineering Register (NER) and/or Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), or ability to obtain. Proven experience in the geotechnical design of infrastructure projects, preferably within the power, energy, or civil construction sectors. Strong knowledge of soil and rock mechanics, foundation engineering, ground improvement, and slope stability. Proficient in geotechnical software such as Plaxis, SLIDE, LPILE, Settle3, gINT, WALLAP, or equivalent.
