About the role The Mater Speech Pathology team are recruiting an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Speech Pathologist – Emergency and Acute Services to cover a period of extended leave. Please note that this opportunity is available to current Mater Speech Pathologists only. This is a part time role (16 hours per week) available on a temporary basis from late September 2025-Febuary 2026. (HP4) Salary range: $64.64 - $69.55 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 access to many staff benefits! What you’ll be doing The successful applicant will provide high level knowledge, skills, experience and clinical leadership within Mater Speech Pathology as well as multidisciplinary teams. You will also deliver high quality speech pathology services to adult patients of Mater Hospitals primarily in the Emergency Department, Acute Medical Unit, Emergency Care Unit, Short Stay Unit, and inpatient acute wards. The focus of the role will be to lead initiatives that support early and timely identification and management of swallowing and communication disorders in Mater’s Emergency and acute inpatient hospital wards. There is a strong focus on data collection and demonstrating the clinical impact of this position on our service and patients. Deliver high level speech pathology services commensurate with advanced clinical knowledge and skill to assess, diagnose and implement treatment for patients presenting to Emergency and acute inpatient wards with patients presenting with routine to complex swallowing and communication disorders. Demonstrate expertise and deliver high level care in managing dysphagia and communication disorders arising from a variety of complex conditions in the adult population Develop evidence based clinical procedures to identify people who are at high risk of swallowing and communication disorders across the continuum of inpatient care Implement Speech Pathology procedures and deliver high level clinical services and education within multidisciplinary to embed the role and value of Speech Pathology services across the continuum of inpatient care. This education may include, for example, the provision of regular professional training and supervision to other members of the multidisciplinary team across Mater hospitals. Demonstrate high level prioritisation and clinical reasoning to guide service planning and ensure that high risk patients are identified, managed and receive appropriate ongoing services if indicated (e.g. through community agencies). Develop professional networks to promote and highlight the role and value of Speech Pathology within the Emergency and acute settings within and external to Mater. Monitor and report on adult speech pathology clinical practices, resources, activity and outcomes in relation to the objectives of this role, and contribute to the development of relevant policies and procedures to support service delivery. About you As the successful applicant you will be a current member of the Mater Speech Pathology team and have: Tertiary qualifications in Speech Pathology Eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) Eligibility to receive a provider number through Medicare Competence in Video Fluoroscopic Swallow Studies and tracheostomy management would be highly desirable, but not essential ability to participate in the Mater Speech Pathology Weekend Service.
