The key duties of the position include About the Role The Head of Facilities, Security and Safety is responsible for leading the operational management of the Museum's facilities, security, and site safety functions to ensure the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the Museum site. This includes day-to-day oversight of building maintenance, asset performance, and service delivery, as well as ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, standards and performance expectations. The role leads the planning and delivery of all capital works projects and contracts, working closely with a combination of inhouse staff, volunteers and specialist contractors to deliver high quality outcomes. It assumes overall responsibility for the section budget, procurement of materials, equipment and services, and the management of operational and maintenance programs. The position also oversees contracted and inhouse security operations, emergency preparedness, and site safety initiatives, ensuring the Museum provides a secure and welcoming environment for staff, volunteers and visitors. Key Accountabilities Under broad direction, this position is responsible for delivering the following functions: Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Facilities, Security and Safety team, fostering a culture of innovation, commitment, and high performance. Align departmental vision and operations with the Museum's strategic objectives, ensuring a clear sense of purpose across the team. Oversee facilities, security, safety, and maintenance operations through staff, volunteers, and contractors to ensure reliable and efficient service delivery. Plan and manage preventative and reactive maintenance programs to minimise disruption and meet performance targets. Lead and manage capital works projects, including planning, budgets, contracts, timelines, and stakeholder engagement. Develop, manage, and review budgets for Facilities, Assets, Capital Works, and Sustainability Services, ensuring cost control and accountability. Build and maintain strong stakeholder and supplier relationships, managing contracts and tenders to achieve professional, efficient, and value-for-money outcomes. Monitor environmental performance and sustainability initiatives, reporting on results and compliance with government requirements. Act as the primary point of escalation for issues relating to facilities, capital works, site safety, and security. Drive continuous improvement by reviewing operations, embedding best practice, and maintaining strong risk management and compliance processes. Selection Criteria The successful candidate will demonstrate their capacity against the following: Extensive experience and knowledge in facilities management including security, maintenance and asset management. Strong liaison, communication and internal and external stakeholder engagement skills including the ability to communicate confidently at all levels and an aptitude for preparing reports and presentations to communicate progress, status and outcomes to senior leaders, and other relevant parties. Strong leadership skills that will enable you to oversee cross-functional teams, public service employees, contractors and relevant parties, ensuring Museum goals and objectives are met. Ability to demonstrate honesty, fairness and consistency in actions and decisions, building a positive working environment and maintaining trust and credibility through taking ownership of actions. Strong project management skills including the ability to manage budget, scope and timeframe and to identify and rectify issues in a timely manner.
