The Role Our client is seeking farmhands to join their mixed livestock and cropping enterprise in the Oberon area of NSW. The terrain features rolling hills and experiences high-altitude weather conditions. The operation spans 2,800 hectares, which includes 300 hectares of winter wheat, 300 hectares of grazing canola, 300 hectares of ryegrass pasture, 200 hectares of legume pasture, and 200 hectares of brassica. Most crops are produced for grazing livestock, although canola may be harvested depending on market conditions, utilising well-maintained older machinery. The farm is developing a high-quality shedding flock of sheep, aiming to be one of the largest in Australia, using premium genetics. They have 22,000 Aussie white ewes, typically achieving a marking rate of over 145% for lambs. The target market is 25 kg dressed lambs, and they have secured several standing contracts. The lambs are finished on crops or can also be finished in on-site feedlots. The property boasts excellent infrastructure, including multiple sets of modern yards and various sheep handlers to minimise manual handling. Contractors are utilised for lamb marking and pre-joining checks. The operation also includes an opportunistic trade cattle operation, depending on seasonal conditions and pasture availability. The primary role will involve livestock husbandry across all facets of sheep and cattle, along with fence maintenance, tractor and loader operation for cropping activities such as seeding, spreading, spraying, general farm maintenance, weed spraying, and road repairs. The operation aims to enhance the quality of their livestock and land, using Agriwebb to monitor livestock and land use activities. Due to the location, candidates must be able to work during harsh winters, which can be very cold at 1,000 meters above sea level, with an average rainfall of 850 mm. This position provides opportunities for career advancement as a reward for hard work and diligence. It is open to both a farm hand and a senior farm hand, with the potential to hire two suitable employees, and training is available. The Offer A competitive remuneration package, which includes accommodation, electricity, and Wi-Fi, is being offered. The housing options are clean, recently renovated, and tailored to different family situations. The housing consisted of a four-bedroom, two-bathroom private accommodation with a carport and yard, or a three-bedroom cottage with one bathroom, also private, complete with a carport and yard. Vehicles for work purposes are provided.
