About the Restaurant Thakar Indian Veg Kitchen is an authentic Indian vegetarian restaurant in Adelaide, serving traditional flavors with a modern touch. Our menu features a wide variety of vegetarian delicacies, from North Indian curries, street food favorites, and South Indian classics to a dedicated selection of Indian sweets and desserts. With a strong focus on freshness, authenticity, and hospitality, we are proud to create a memorable dining experience for every guest. We are now looking for dedicated Chefs(3nos) and Cooks(2nos) to join our kitchen team on a full-time and permanent basis. These roles offer the opportunity to work with a passionate group of professionals while contributing to one of Adelaide’s most loved Indian vegetarian dining experiences. Key Responsibilities Common Responsibilities (Chef & Cook): Prepare and cook a wide variety of Indian vegetarian dishes in line with Thakar’s menu and quality standards. Ensure dishes are presented consistently and meet portion, flavor, and appearance expectations. Maintain kitchen cleanliness and uphold food safety and hygiene standards at all times. Assist with stock control by monitoring ingredient levels, rotating supplies, and minimizing wastage. Follow established recipes and cooking procedures while also supporting innovation and freshness in the menu. Work collaboratively with the kitchen team, supporting training and guidance where required. Handle kitchen equipment safely and report any maintenance or safety issues. Uphold workplace health and safety practices, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment. Additional Responsibilities (Chef): Plan and develop menu items, keeping budget, seasonality, and customer preferences in mind. Supervise kitchen operations, coordinating and leading staff during service periods. Train and mentor kitchen staff to improve consistency and efficiency across the menu. Create new recipes and specials to keep the menu exciting and aligned with current trends. Additional Responsibilities (for one Cook position - Indian Sweet Specialist): preparing and cooking a wide range of traditional Indian sweets and desserts is highly desirable. What We’re Looking For For Both Chef and Cook Roles: Minimum 1 to 2 years of experience in a professional kitchen (Indian cuisine experience strongly preferred). Strong knowledge of Indian vegetarian cooking techniques and ingredients. Commitment to food quality, hygiene, and workplace safety. Team-oriented with good communication skills and the ability to work under pressure. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required. Additionally, for Chefs: Formal qualifications in Commercial Cookery (Certificate IV or equivalent) are desirable. Demonstrated experience in supervising staff and overseeing kitchen operations. Proven ability to design and develop menus while controlling budgets and minimizing wastage. Pay offered to Indian Cook role is between $72,000 to $80,000 Pay offered to Indian Chef role is between $75,000 to $85,000
