Develop your skills within a reputable government department The Opportunity We are seeking a motivated professional to step into a short-term backfill role as Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator. This opportunity is ideal for someone with a strong practical understanding of WHS legislation and Codes who is early in their WHS management career and keen to gain valuable experience in Local Government. While it is not expected that the successful candidate will cover the full scope of the position, they will have the chance to make a meaningful contribution with guidance and support from the current Coordinator. About the Role: Support the development and implementation of Council's Work Health and Safety (WHS) Management System. Ensure compliance with legislation and support the ongoing strengthening of the safety culture. Provide advice and assistance to promote a healthy, safe, and productive workplace. Key Responsibilities During this short-term opportunity, the successful applicant may contribute to: Reviewing and developing WHS policies, procedures, and risk management strategies. Supporting compliance through audits, inspections, and incident reporting. Preparing WHS performance metrics and incident summaries for senior management. Assisting with WHS training programs, toolbox talks, and awareness initiatives. Supporting investigations into workplace incidents and contributing to corrective actions. Assisting with emergency preparedness activities, including procedures and drills. Exposure to injury management and return-to-work strategies in collaboration with insurers. Engaging with senior leaders, Executive management, and WHS committees. About You A strong understanding of WHS legislation and Codes, with relevant qualifications or working towards them. Practical experience in workplace health and safety, ideally in system management, audits, or investigations. Excellent interpersonal skills, with cultural awareness and emotional intelligence. Ability to build positive relationships and work collaboratively across all levels of the organisation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Desirable (not essential): Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, White Card, Rehabilitation and Return-to-Work Coordinator Certificate, WHS Auditor accreditation.
