Job Description We are seeking a Security Engineer to join an Enabling Technical Team (ETT) supporting a major ICT capability development initiative for Defence. The role contributes to the delivery of secure, integrated ICT systems that support Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations. The position requires collaboration across technical teams to meet critical milestones in a complex ICT environment, with a focus on security, system design, and engineering best practices. Duties and Responsibilities Develop and operate IT security systems including, but not limited to, next generation firewalls, intrusion detection, web application firewalls, content filtering, API security, DDoS protection, proxies, endpoint detection and response, network detection and response, user behaviour analytics, vulnerability scanning, secrets management, identity and access control systems, application whitelisting, device control, PKI and encryption solutions. Review existing system security controls and implement remedial actions. Develop and operate systems to monitor and analyse security logs and event information. Implement and operate security automation solutions. Provide technical guidance on security control implementation. Plan and conduct test and evaluation activities for systems and products. Support the Technical Leadership team. Produce technical documentation, briefings, and reports as required. Engage with stakeholders across Defence and related projects to ensure alignment of ICT security capabilities. Education/Certifications required Relevant tertiary qualifications in ICT, Cyber Security, or related discipline are highly regarded. Industry certifications in security engineering or related areas are desirable. Knowledge/Skills required Demonstrated practical knowledge of ICT systems design, security architecture, and engineering services. Strong understanding of security monitoring, intrusion detection, and response systems. Experience with secure network and cloud architectures. Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
