The Opportunity Bellingen Shire Council has an exciting Capital Works delivery program that will be delivered in the coming years. Council’s annual Capital program is currently in excess of $50M, including bridge renewals, spending over $15M on its Road Renewal program as well as special projects such as the Urunga Boardwalk Replacement and upgrades to Connell Park. Reporting to the Group Leader Infrastructure Delivery, the Civil Project Engineer is responsible for delivering a range of capital and maintenance projects from inception to completion. You will manage the entire project life cycle, from planning and design to construction and handover, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, to specification, and in compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Leading a small team, you will work with subcontractors, Council crews, and key stakeholders to deliver outcomes that meet community needs while fostering strong, positive relationships with partners such as Transport for NSW. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline. You will bring demonstrated experience managing civil projects of varying complexity, from concept to delivery, ideally within a local or state government context. Your background will include preparing technical documentation, managing tenders, administering contracts, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, funding agreements, and Council processes. To succeed in the role, you will need exceptional organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining quality and governance standards. Strong leadership and communication skills will enable you to guide your team, liaise effectively with contractors, and engage the community in project delivery. You will have a practical approach, the ability to anticipate and resolve issues quickly, and a commitment to achieving results through collaboration and sound project management practices.
