The opportunity ASIO's Legal Services Division is a professional in-house legal practice providing expert legal advice to support ASIO's operational and corporate functions, and to manage ASIO's representation in courts and tribunals. The Division works with international and domestic partners including law enforcement, intelligence agencies and other Commonwealth and State departments. We provide on the job training and opportunities for professional development and you can expect to get experience across the practice. Exciting opportunities exist for suitably qualified lawyers at the AE6 (APS6) level. We are looking for early career lawyers with some experience of legal practice, who are curious, creative thinkers to be part of our team, working across a range of legal disciplines. A number of positions are available. A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. The key duties of the position include Role responsibilities We are looking for suitably qualified lawyers with excellent technical skills across one or more of these key areas: • Statutory interpretation. • Administrative law. • Criminal law and law enforcement. • Employment law. • Litigation and dispute resolution (civil and/or criminal inquiries). • Commercial law. As a member of the team, you will report to an Assistant Director (AEE1), work closely with business areas, and focus on quality client service.
