Data Product & Delivery Lead Our data ecosystem is evolving fast — we need a lead who can drive delivery and management across platforms and integrations This role blends product ownership, data governance uplift, and early-stage AI data strategy, making it both unique and impactful. You’ll be a practical data leader who thrives in a complex, matrixed environment with multiple vendors, stakeholders, and delivery partners. We offer a flexible hybrid model based out of our Martin Place, Sydney CBD office — typically 3 days in-office and 2 days from home. About the opportunity This role spans data platform product delivery, data management uplift, and AI data enablement. You’ll work closely with our agile delivery partners, as well as internal stakeholders across multiple service towers, —You will own product backlogs, running key forums, and maturing product ownership practices across the ecosystem. Your time will be spent across three core areas—data product ownership, data governance, and AI enablement—with product ownership being the primary focus. Data Platform Product Ownership Own and execute the delivery roadmap for data platforms (Snowflake, Power BI, 5Tran), ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and regulatory requirements. Lead backlog lifecycle activities including change scoping, user story creation, sprint prioritisation, and testing support. Work together with our delivery partner and internal teams to manage capacity and provide clear, transparent updates on progress and outcomes. Foster product ownership maturity across the organisation to enhance alignment between product owners and delivery teams. Engage key stakeholders from business, risk, compliance, and IT to ensure ongoing alignment with governance frameworks and evolving business needs. Define, monitor, and report on KPIs related to data quality, platform performance, and user adoption to drive continuous improvement. Data Governance & Ownership Take full ownership of the internal data governance forum—chair meetings, facilitate decision-making, establish ownership standards, onboard new data entities, and maintain the data register. Lead the practical embedding of data ownership and delegation roles, moving beyond governance documents to actual practice. Partner with Risk, Compliance, and business units to support Challenger’s compliance with CPS 235 and financial services data regulations, ensuring controls and ownership are effectively implemented across key data domains. AI Data Strategy & Governance Help shape Challenger’s emerging AI data strategy by co-leading initiatives that align structured and unstructured data, embed strong governance, and define the roadmap. Establish and lead an AI Data working group to identify use cases and guide the business through capability and technology decisions. What we’re looking for You’re someone who: Delivers outcomes through structure, prioritisation, relationships and clear communication Thrives in a complex stakeholder environment — balancing needs across multiple domains Brings confidence in data governance and experience building ownership models Understands agile ways of working and can lift product maturity over time Is confident running forums, chairing working groups, and driving alignment — especially in vendor-supported models Plus, you’ll have: Significant experience in data delivery, data governance, data management or data product ownership roles — ideally within complex or regulated organisations (financial services experience a big plus) Proven ability managing outsourced or vendor delivery teams (e.g., Accenture or similar) Working knowledge of data governance frameworks and compliance requirements (including CPS 235 and/or CPS 234) Experience building ownership models and implementation of data governance concepts using practical methods in a maturing environment Hands-on experience with data platform technologies (Snowflake, Power BI, 5Tran, Mulesoft, or similar) Solid understanding of agile product management practices, including backlog ownership, user story development, sprint planning, and testing coordination Exposure to AI data strategy or governance, with an ability to translate strategic goals into practical governance and enablement initiatives Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with experience influencing senior stakeholders across multiple business units Technology Experience with these (or similar): Snowflake (essential), 5Tran, Power BI, Stibo, Informatica (legacy), Mulesoft, Go Anywhere Why Challenger?
